The Spring Musical - Frozen, Jr.

Wondering how TK/K/1 kids can participate in the spring musical, FROZEN, Jr.? Here's the plan! There are TWO WAYS to participate. 

RISING STARS PART-TIME PROGRAM: For TK/K/1 kids who "just want to be in the play", we will have the part-time Rising Stars program. The part-time rising stars are in the Opening and the Finale of the play. These kids will meet and rehearse with the full cast on Mondays and Wednesdays from 2:40-3:30pm in the school auditorium April 4-May 7 (not counting the week school is closed for spring break). This will be a 4 week program of rehearsals leading up to the performances on the weekend of May 6-7. (Some additional rehearsal time will also be needed during the final production week.) This program is $250. Parent volunteers needed to help with this - must be LAUSD/school approved. Check with the office on how to become a volunteer.

RISING STARS FULL-TIME PROGRAM For TK/K/1 kids who want an immersive after school theatre program, we will continue to have the full-time Rising Stars program - Mon-Fri, from the end of the school day until 6pm. This is a great option for families who need after care but who also have kids who love theatre and performing. Session 2 of the Full-Week program starts March 7. This 8 week program is $125 per week = $1000 for the 8 week session. Starting on April 4, on Mondays and Wednesdays from 2:40-3:30, Meredyth and Leeza will bring the kids up to the auditorium to rehearse with the other Rising Stars kids and with the rest of the cast.

AUDITIONS
Rising Stars kids do not need to audition! All full-time Rising Stars are invited to perform with the part-time Rising Stars in the Opening and the Finale of the play, and also during the pre show and intermission - but any Rising Stars kid who does not want to perform does not have to!

Rising Stars

FOCUSfish, the non-profit that brings aerial & theatre arts to schools and communities, is offering a full time after school program for TK, Kindergarten, and First Grade Students at Topanga Elementary Charter School.

FOCUSfish: Rising Stars 💫 Theater Arts for TECS TK/K/1
Mon-Fri after school every day till 6pm - $125 a week (payment plans and sliding scale / scholarships available)

Session 1 - Registration opens Dec 15, 2021

Jan 11 - Mar 4 - $1000 for 8 weeks

Session 2 - The Spring Musical! (Registration opens in February)
Mar 7 - May 6 - $1000 for 8 weeks

Session 3 - (Registration opens in April)

May 9 - June 10 - $625 for 5 weeks

FOCUSfish is now offering an immersive after school theater arts enrichment program for TK, K, and 1st graders! Activities will include physical and vocal warm up exercises, improv technique, theater games, puppetry, storytelling, theater oriented arts and crafts, as well as singing/acting practice. Snacks provided by Beyond the Bell.

Meredyth Hunt is a performer, teacher and theater creator.  She is a FOCUSfish specialist, the Artistic Director of Happy Chicken Theater — a company that creates original theater for children — and teaches summer theater camps. Meredyth has also created two original works for Descanso Gardens.

FOCUSfish is committed to a work environment in which all individuals are treated with respect and dignity. In order to keep this commitment, FOCUSfish maintains a strict policy of prohibiting unlawful harassment of any kind, including sexual harassment and harassment based on race, color, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, sex, age, physical or mental disability or any other characteristic protected by state, federal or local employment discrimination laws. This policy applies to all FOCUSfish agents and specialists, including supervisors and non-supervisory employees, and to independent contractors who engage in unlawful harassment in the workplace.

Sexual harassment includes, but is not limited to, making unwanted sexual advances and requests for sexual favors where either:
  1. Submission to such conduct is made an explicit or implicit term or condition of employment; or
  2. Submission to or rejection of such conduct by an individual is used as the basis of employment decisions affecting such individual; or
  3. Such conduct has the purpose or effect of substantially interfering with an individual’s work performance or creating an intimidating, hostile, or offensive working environment.

Employees who violate this policy are subject to discipline up to and including the possibility of immediate discharge. Examples of unlawful harassment include, but are not limited to:
  • Verbal conduct such as epithets, derogatory jokes or comments, slurs or unwanted sexual advances, invitations or comments.
  • Visual conduct such as derogatory and/or sexually oriented posters, photography, cartoons, drawings, e-mail and faxes or gestures.
  • Physical conduct such as assault, unwanted touching, blocking normal movement or interfering with work directed at an employee because of the employee’s sex or other protected characteristic.
  • Threats and demands to submit to sexual requests in order keep one’s job or avoid some other loss, and offers of employment benefits in return for sexual favors.
  • Retaliation for having reported or threatened to report unlawful harassment.

Any employee or other person who believes they have been harassed by a co-worker, supervisor, or agent of FOCUSfish or by a non-employee should promptly report the facts of the incident or incidents and the names of the individual(s) involved to their program coordinator or advisory council contact, or in the alternative, to a board member. Upon receipt of a complaint, FOCUSfish will undertake a prompt, thorough, objective and good faith investigation of the harassment allegations.

If the organization determines that harassment has occurred, effective remedial action will be taken in accordance with the circumstances involved. Any employee determined by the FOCUSfish to be responsible for harassment will be subject to appropriate disciplinary action, up to and including termination.

​Employees will not be retaliated against for filing a complaint and/or assisting in a complaint or investigation process. Further, we will not tolerate or permit retaliation by supervisors or co-workers against any complainant or anyone assisting in a harassment investigation.
