  • Coaches have great energy & a positive attitude

Schools can expect:
  • Customized programs to meet the individual needs of private and public schools
  • Training can include: Aerial Arts, Dance (many styles), Capoeira, specialized Core Training & Ball Sports
  • Programs range from one-day demonstrations/assemblies to long-term curricula
  • Includes on-site provision of equipment, rigging and world-class instructors

PTA recognized a need to create an inspired and varied Physical Education Program at school.  Through partnership with a local studio (FOCUSfish), a progressive, non-competitive, inclusive physical education program has been developed. Weekly instruction takes place in the areas of: Yoga, Innovative Fitness, Ball Sports, Circus Arts, Martial Arts/Capoeira, and World Dance.

Specialists in each of the designated units are provided by FOCUSfish. Though diverse in teaching style and energy, all share the FOCUSfish philosophy: necessity of a healthy body and a strong relationship between physical awareness, strength, poise and a more powerful brain.  Most importantly, students have a blast with a variety of disciplines and benefit from exposure to a variety of visiting professionals. All children participate in an end of year demonstration of some of the skills practiced during PE class.

FOCUSfish is also responsible for staff development, specifically in the area of developing short practical movement routines that can be incorporated into the students’ daily schedule.  – HKCC Parents Commitee

FOCUSfish: The Physical Education Mission

Established in 2003, FOCUSfish is a California nonprofit corporation whose mission increases the schools’ ability to provide enriching, innovative exercise in their Physical Education curricula while keeping the students active and healthy in body, mind and spirit.

Due, in large part, to the return of governmental budget deficits, public schools are again being forced to cut their own budgets. The new governmental education initiatives are focused solely on core curricula and standardized testing. Physical Education budgets are sacrificed in the process. FOCUSfish brings considerable resources and expertise to schools that cannot afford to devote such resources internally to these programs.

FOCUSfish is not limited to the student body and public schools.  FOCUSfish also offers:  Professional Development for Teachers in the public and private school systems, holiday Circus Camps for schools and organizations, community fitness classes for families, and community-building entertainment.

FOCUSfish: The Education Goals

FOCUSfish plans to be a physical education program executed by all Los Angeles schools needing standards-based physical education programming, of at least, the required 100 weekly minutes.  All funds raised by grants and fundraisers will be used for core operations, including:  finding specialists equipped to work in the LAUSD school system, equipment purchases, administrative expenses, providing enriching program to all schools in need, and teacher/professional development seminars.

FOCUSfish acknowledges the need for a self-contained program that easily fits into the already existing schedule of the present public school system in California.  FOCUSfish has developed curriculum that complies with the standards, over the past 20 years of operation and execution.

FOCUSfish would like to supplement PTA and booster club funds, as well as internal government programs, with grant funds so that all children may have physical education in their school day.

FOCUSfish strives to educate children and their families in the field of physical education:  sports, yoga, circus arts, physical fitness, cultural dance, creative movement and practical body knowledge as a means of preventative health; and therefore, a healthier community.
